As most of you know, I just moved into an apartment with Emily in Omaha and am now working as an Administrative Assistant for Estate and Wealth and as a cashier for Chipotle, which is why I haven't blogged... well... as my dad pointed out.. I've only been in Omaha for 3 weeks and I haven't blogged since August.. but, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! So, since its been forever... I thought I'd take a few pictures and give you a little tour of just my room.. I still haven't taken pictures of the whole place yet :-P

This is my room, and it isn't that dark in there most of the time :-P

Nannie Diaries #1

>> Tuesday, August 23, 2011

So today was my first day by myself self. Yesterday the boy's babysitter/old nanny was here to train me and show me the ropes of how this works in this home. If you didn't already know, I started a new nanny job in Cody, WY taking care of twin 2.5 yr old boys.. Ben and Lucas. I live in the guest room (most of the time) and have a bathroom.. and a bathtub and a shower and a walk in closet... that's important. Really important.

So today was... interesting.

I started the day off by popping out of bed at 5:45 and going for a quick run. It was quick because it was still kinda dark and I am TERRIFIED of the dark.. like for real, and I saw this thing up there that was big and black and getting closer to me faster than I was moving towards it and ya, okay, I got scared! Fine. I admit it. I turned around and ran back quite a bit faster than I got there actually. I had some time for a quick shower, some writing in my journal quiet time and all before 6:30ish when the boys got up.

Now, both parents work some days of the week and they cry every time one walks out of the room or leaves.. EVERY time. There were 10 meltdowns between them before 10 AM. Which was okay, I mean it was the first day and they are not used to me yet so I expected that somewhat. They were also up most of the night last night so... ya.

We went for a walk, had breakfast and hit the library (which is AWESOME btw) at about 10:15.... 15 minutes late... dang. We were supposed to go to story time but two someones who will remain unnamed decided to make it 11 and 12 in the meltdowns and we kinda had to leave. After an hour or so of puzzles and stuff we headed home for some lunch and a NAP for the boys.
Oh and you should know that the landscapers were here and their two workers were bums, "Ren" Because he had a bit of a bad attitude like Ren off footloose and "Captain Crack" because he had atleast 6 inches of his rear showing every time he bent over. I found them kind annoying.. mostly because they were bumming around and that annoys me. :-P

While the boys slept I did general stuff, cleaned the car, washed the carseats, bla bla bla, then they woke up and were up for about an hour before Mr. came home. He was being a great involved daddy and took them for a walk (I think he may have also seen that the nanny was about to kill them) I took the opportunity to vacuum and discovered that someone who will remain anonymous but his name starts with a B and rhymes with "en" took the bathroom trash can, put it in the sink and had been letting it fill and overflow for like 45 min. I did not cry that time... or the second time... or the third time. I started to think by the third time when I caught him in the act that I should be smart enough to see this coming and punish him or something.

Then we danced and they thought I was like the energizer bunny or something and that I could just throw their massive selves (they are the size of 4yr olds btw) all over for hours.. I am not and I cant. After their parents got home from getting Dinner, I went to walmart with Karissa and then wrote this and now I am going to go and sit down.... and sink down... in a nice long bath...

PS this picture is when I put their car seats back together and while I was re adjusting the straps... I thought I'd just leave them there... it was a wonderful feeling ;-)

PPS Captain Crack got a massive Sunburn on his rear end... I was really really tickled and amused by that.. I literally walked across the house giggling out loud about it. I know, its horrid.

Remake of Cherries!

>> Thursday, July 14, 2011

A few weeks ago I took a trip with my dear aunties and Solly pie to the Islands and toodled around these adorable little historical touristy towns all day! It was so much fun and while we were out I saw something in the window of a consignment shop that caught my eye...

It was this adorable little rose print dress and I think the thing I loved about it the most besides the perfect fit was the contrasting red and white polkadot fabric that added such a whimsical but still sophisticated air to the dress..

I tried it on, fell in love, and shelled out $10 for it. It was an investment... I swear. ;-)

There were a few things I wanted to "alter" on the dress because I can rarely buy something and leave it the way it is now days :-P
The first thing was the straps, it was a strapless dress and I like straps, so I wanted to add some of those.

The second thing was the tulle that was hanging out underneath. It had a little charm in and of itself (with that adorable little polkadot border!) but I thought the tulle looked a little too little girly or like a ballet costume...

I decided that I HAD to do it that night (so I could wear it to church the next day... duh) which by the way, I used to decide at some point Saturday afternoon that I needed a new outfit for Sunday and then be up sewing till all hours of the day and night Saturday to finish it alll the time when I was *ehum* younger and had more energy ;-) Now that I have reached the ripe old age of 19 I decided to indulge myself once again in a spontaneous trip to Joann's and a late Saturday night sewing session =)

I found an adorable cherry fabric that matched the general color scheme and the finished product is below!

I ended up adding ties and a little waist band as well just to spread the cheery cherry around ;-)

Is that not the MOST adorable cherry fabric!! I adore it!

I added a hem band just long enough that the cuuuuute polka-dot fabric shows a little here and there at the bottom, but no tulle!

Then for Sunday I decided to go a little bit vintage and added a minty teal cardigan that my dear Auntie gave me, a string of pearls (that I forgot to wear in the picture) and my red TOMS wedge sandals that I adore and would wear with everything if I could. ;-)

I really don't need this last picture ... but I just loved the way it turned out, so... ♥

I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out! and I think I ended up spending about $13 total on it =)
