"Abounding Blessings"

I was challenged last weekend to think of all the things I was grateful for, or blessings, or things that made me smile (smiling is something to be grateful for!) and make a list. I decided to take that idea and combine it with another idea I got a few months ago.
Someone sent me a link to this blog : "Yellow Shoe Day"
The lady who wrote it was using pictures and listing off things that she was happy/thankful for (I think?) Correct me if I am wrong...

Either way, I loved the idea and have decided to do something similar and combine it with the inspiration from last weekend.

I am going to make myself a challenge: 1000 things I am grateful for, blessings, smiles, ect and a picture to illustrate each.

As you probably noticed that little poll on the right side, I want your opinions as to where I should feature this new project. Should I put it on this blog and just weave my other posts in and out between them, or should I create another blog and have it over there?
Would you even read another blog? (Come on... no one wants to sit through two blogs by one person! ;-) Or do they? )

You are my readers... you tell me!

I was browsing through my pictures today and came across this one that made me smile and think fond thoughts about some sweet girls I know! ( I wish Ruthie was in this picture!!)

Somebody to love?

>> Saturday, May 15, 2010

I was taken aback just yesterday by a revelation that has been creeping over me within the last few months. This is more of a ramble of thoughts than anything else so I hope it makes sense! =)

I was doing the classic, changing a “business” diaper, and bopping along to the music on my Aunt’s iTunes, when a particular song came on. It happened to be a song that Glee does called “Somebody to love” which I rather like. The lyrics to the main chorus are a bit if a necessity to understanding the rest of my post so I will paste them here:

“Somebody - somebody

Can anybody find me

Somebody to love?”

I was thinking about it and being single in general, and the seemingly complete lack of good guys anywhere any more, as I played with the baby’s face.

“Lord, would you find me someone to love?” I absentmindedly prayed.

Solomon let out a gurgly giggle and suddenly it began to dawn on me, as I heard His voice gently speaking. “Hillary, I already have. Look around you!”

It was true!

Here in my arms was the sweetest giggling mass of cuteness who simply thrived on love. “Okay, God, I have Solomon, but…...” “Hillary, you have so much more than that. L.O.O.K around you! ”

I began to think. There was the single mom down the street that I had befriended a few weeks ago. There was the couple on the top of the hill, Bob and Beth, who I had met walking….

As I drove into downtown Seattle an hour later I was still thinking about it. God has given me millions (literally) of people to love! The man on the on ramp in front of me, he needed on and I had the opportunity to let him in. No one else had taken the time to let him in and he had been sitting there for a while.

Pike Street Market was jam packed with people of all colors, shapes, and sizes. (Literally) I walked around with the baby and I could not help but love them.

The gal with the pink mohawk who was quite obviously head over heels in love with the young man, who had so many piercings you could barely see his face, whose hand she was holding. I smiled at her as she went by and her eyes light up.

There was a handsome young man on the street corner playing a guitar, harmonica, and hula hooping simultaneously. He saw me take out my camera and started to play behind his head. My heart went out to him and his nearly empty guitar case. He was way to thin. Why was he there? For what purpose did our paths cross? All I could give him was a smile.

There are so many people, so many lives, so many souls. Thousands of untouched hearts and untold stories.

Here I am, for the first time in my life living right smack in the middle of them.

Come to think of it, I could not ask for a bigger library of people to love.

Cookie Monster

I got the privilege of making 12 dozen cookies for the church dinner and we had a blast doing it!

Our favorite recipe is as follows:

1 cup shortening
2 eggs
2t cream of tartar
1/2 t salt
1 1/2 c sugar
2 3/4 c flour
1 t soda

Cream shortening, sugar, vanilla, and eggs. Add all other ingredients. Roll into walnut sized balls. Mix 1 T sugar and 1 T cinnamon. Roll balls in cinnamon /sugar. Place on un-greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for 8-10 minutes. Store in Ziplock bags with an orange peel to maintain softness. =)

The joys of city life

>> Thursday, May 6, 2010

There are some things I just do not understand. One would be the classic, UPS man comes roaring up our little street and first of all sets all the dogs within 3 blocks barking. Including the two that live in this house. He always comes right when the baby has fallen asleep after being a crab for the past hour. In about the time it takes for him to get the boxes out of the truck and make it to the front step I have gotten the dogs quieted and the baby's eyes closed again.
At this point he commits the unforgivable sin, in my book. Ringing the doorbell and walking away while the dogs tear him to pieces.....verbally.
WHY???
It is like the big boy version of "ding-dong-ditch"! Seriously, I bet he played that when he was a child and that is why he got the job as a UPS man... just to wreak havoc on poor unsuspecting nannies and naptimes.

Maybe not, but still, something had to be done and I finally broke down and did it. Hopefully he will think twice next time before pushing that horrid button.

A morning routine

>> Tuesday, May 4, 2010

Every morning John used to come into the kitchen in his pajamas and ask to help me make breakfast.

I started to teach him how to make biscuits and he almost had it down to doing it by himself when I left.

Don't worry.... I am sure we had forgotten to wash his hands.

This is just entirely too classic and cute if you ask me!

*insert huge proud grin here*

The completed product all ready to be cooked!

Never take little moments like this for granted! They are only little once, and you never know how big or small the window you have with them will be... I miss this... a lot!

Family ♥

I recently discovered with great delight that I still had several pictures from before I left home on my camera card!

This post is kind of a mishmash of those photos but I think y'all might enjoy them anyhow!

This little fellow I miss.... very....badly.

I thought this was amazing... note the water drop coming off the icicle in mid-fall.

Please agree with me that this looks like a laying down elephant!?

"I love you, you love me, we write hearts in the snow so all can see..." ;-)

This is what it looked like when I left home...

This picture almost makes me like cats. Which is sad, considering I took it, and that just seems almost really vain of me.

Did I mention I missed him?

This was an awesome mail day -- I got an herb book, Benjamin got a wrench set he had ordered, we got this card from mom, and LOTS of Valentines day candy as well!

Because everyone loves these too... ♥

Yes, that would be bare feet prints. Yes, that is real snow. Yes, that is the weirdest angle for the dog and cat. Yes, this was totally random. Hey, it amused me... *grins*

Because she is beautiful and I miss her too!

P.E *My* Family's Style...

Yes, this would be the daily exhibition of the "Macarina". (Leah and Benjy, you are welcome for me not posting the picture I had of both of y'all. ;-) I would like to unashamedly state that I am the best at this particular dance but am closely rivaled by Rosie and Emily. *bows*

I just love this... this would be the "duck walk". Try it sometime!

Dear Lord, make me beautiful?

>> Saturday, May 1, 2010

"When I’m at the point of breaking

At the place where I resign,

And I’m at the stage of shaking my head

As I look back on my life,

When I’m halfway through the grieving,

But not quite through the ache,

When I cannot see the ending

Or which road I’m supposed to take,

All I know to do is lift my hands to You.

Take all of my life, all of my life,

And make something beautiful.

I open my hand, trusting Your plan.

Make something beautiful so all will see
You work in me
As You make something beautiful

When I am tired of pretending
And I can't recall my lines
Do I say I'm barely breathing?
Or just say I'm doin' fine
I admit there is a yearning
For the hurting to subside
But not at the risk of missing
What you're doing in my life

All I know to do is lift my hands to You.

Take all of my life, all of my life,

And make something beautiful.

I open my hand, trusting Your plan.

Make something beautiful so all will see
You work in me
As You make something beautiful" -Laura Story
