Turn and walk up the steps, if you are a girl, please let the guy who will be standing here help you up the stairs so he feels good about himself...."

I know that most of the craze over J.R.R Tolkien's cherished bit of writing and the movies they based off of them is pretty much over.
However, at the recommendation of quite a few people I decided to read the "Lord Of The Rings Trilogy".
I borrowed all three books in one rather plump volume from the library and read it in little pieces over the course of a few weeks. I have more than a few thoughts on the whole book but I want to share one thing that particularly stuck out to me in the way of life lessons.
The number one lesson I think I learned or saw was from everyone's favorite character....Gollum.
When Gollum first gave in to his lust after the ring, and killed his cousin for it, he made a choice that would dictate his life and eventually his death as well.
He chose to leave the light and walk in darkness. When the ring was taken from him he was constantly drawn to it and spent his entire life trying to get it back. A slave to evil, his ultimate climax in the story came when he regained the ring, only to fall and be destroyed in the fire of doom with the ring in his hand.
While this is a fictitious story, I found it very interesting just how, more often than not, it lined up with how we act today. We take that first step towards darkness, be it harboring bitterness, rejecting the truth, opening our minds to pollution, or any manner of things, and we are faced with the choice to let it grow or let it go.
Gollum wanted his “precious”; he lived and died for it. We want our sin. Will we live and die for it? Or will we live in light of Hebrews 12:1-3 ?
“1Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart”
All that said I greatly appreciated the book/s, I don’t think I will have the nerve to watch the movies :), Aside from the few eye openers about certain aspects of the christian walk , like the one I said above, I did not see the parallel in “Lord Of The Rings” like in “The Chronicles Of Narnia” that I was told there was. I also read the hobbit, and I found it a very ‘cute’ book. I loved Tolkien's writing style in the “Hobbit”. And I know a few people who do a very good job at imitating it.
Thoughts from anyone are more than welcome in the comments section!

The abortion issue is one that has weighed heavily on my heart for most of my life. One that today I have a chance to stand up against. Cry Action is a campaign for life, exposing the world to the hard cruel facts of Abortion. I will be featuring a new fact every day on the top side bar of my blog for 30 days.
Join me in standing against this despicable practice in our nation.

So I have been wanting to do something insanely girlie. By girlie I mean pink, ribbons, cute, tea, dainty, fancy Nancy, ruffles, hair, makeup, nail polishy kinda girlie. Like the kind of girlie that makes most fellows run more in fear than disgust.
I decided to skip most of the things on that list and just settle for a tea party with my three youngest sisters.

Ahhh and I even got the satisfaction of washing the dishes!

When Phoenix and Sissy came home from AWANA with the "Cookie Bucket" and a note attached instructing them to fill it by next Wednesday a thought crept into my mind. I had been a long time since I made cookies. I could help the little ones by making an afternoon project out of it next Wednesday! Brilliant! Or so I thought. While I mused on this for an entire week I got more and more excited at how much fun this was going to be. My world was shattered to pieces on Wednesday morning when we were informed that they had to be cookies from the store; not homemade ones. Well, stiff upper lip, plan B, I will make cookies anyhow and we will just eat them! Thus began our blog post....
First one must choose a cookbook. With 16 readily available to choose from this was no easy task. I settled on the Betty Crocker version that was my Grandma's and is my all time favorite. ( I am taking it with me when I move away just so y'all know :D )
Then you must choose your recipe! We went for a Chocolate chip variation with both chocolate and butterscotch chips in it.
Measure ingredients carefully ....
Get little helpers to put cookies on ungreased-usedtobenonstickuntilallthenonstickstuffstuckandcameoff-baking sheet
Mr.Suave and Miss Gorgeous, we are NOT seeing this...
Take note of how the little helpers grease their fingers with *ehum* slobber before in between sliding cookies off of the spoon. Makes it go ever so much faster ;-)
Now this is more like it!
Observe cookies all ready to bake...
Such uniform little balls of dough! Bravo to the little helpers!
This is where the rest of the little people arrive just in time for chocolate chip handouts. How clever!
After baking the cookies comes the best part of all.
What do you think it is?
In the words of Mr.Nelson during children's missionary story : "Come back next week and find out!"
For those of you who did not catch my drift about the final step and since I will like as not forget to post the answer next week; We ate them.
