"Jesus Died!"- Paul Washer

>> Monday, October 26, 2009

This video was brought to my attention by a friend, and after watching it I was thinking about a concept that he introduced.
He was saying that we should not share the gospel by telling people that they need to make Jesus the Lord of their lives. His reasoning was that Jesus already is the Lord of everyone's lives, whether they like it or not.
True statement once you think about it, but then again there is a difference in that ruling relationship God has, in the lives of Christians and non-Christians.
What is it?
I have a few thoughts but I would encourage you to watch the video and share your thoughts in the comments section. Once I have gotten mine formulated (and I am hoping some of y'all will spur my thinking on by commenting with your thoughts *hint hint*) I will share them on here in another post.
Any other commentary on other portions of His message is welcome. :)

What do you think?

Jesus is Lord over all, whether someone likes it or not. No action or decision of man will do anything to change the fact that God reigns. Even believing in Jesus is something only possible by a work of God first.

At the same time, there are those who live in rebellion to God's sovereign kingship. Although the truth has been made plain to them, they still reject it and live in rebellion. Christ is Lord and King over the world they live in, and their lives are fully in His hands. Yet at the same time He is not the Lord of their lives in the sense that they are not living as though He were their King, but rather their enemy.

So yes, in one sense Washer's statement is true. Jesus is Lord whether it's recognized or not. One day all will see and recognize this when He comes in judgment at the end of the age. Then again, as you said, the ruling relationship is different.

How does this relate to salvation? The first step must always be the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit, bringing life as without that no one can so much as raise a finger. But the individual must then, by the power of the Holy Spirit, respond. And part of this response involves submission to Christ as Lord. Those who are not Christians have not done this, and as a result Christ is NOT Lord of their lives in the same sense.
