Somebody to love?
>> Saturday, May 15, 2010
I was taken aback just yesterday by a revelation that has been creeping over me within the last few months. This is more of a ramble of thoughts than anything else so I hope it makes sense! =)
I was doing the classic, changing a “business” diaper, and bopping along to the music on my Aunt’s iTunes, when a particular song came on. It happened to be a song that Glee does called “Somebody to love” which I rather like. The lyrics to the main chorus are a bit if a necessity to understanding the rest of my post so I will paste them here:
“Somebody - somebody
Can anybody find me
Somebody to love?”
I was thinking about it and being single in general, and the seemingly complete lack of good guys anywhere any more, as I played with the baby’s face.
“Lord, would you find me someone to love?” I absentmindedly prayed.
Solomon let out a gurgly giggle and suddenly it began to dawn on me, as I heard His voice gently speaking. “Hillary, I already have. Look around you!”
It was true!
Here in my arms was the sweetest giggling mass of cuteness who simply thrived on love. “Okay, God, I have Solomon, but…...” “Hillary, you have so much more than that. L.O.O.K around you! ”
I began to think. There was the single mom down the street that I had befriended a few weeks ago. There was the couple on the top of the hill, Bob and Beth, who I had met walking….
As I drove into downtown Seattle an hour later I was still thinking about it. God has given me millions (literally) of people to love! The man on the on ramp in front of me, he needed on and I had the opportunity to let him in. No one else had taken the time to let him in and he had been sitting there for a while.
Pike Street Market was jam packed with people of all colors, shapes, and sizes. (Literally) I walked around with the baby and I could not help but love them.
The gal with the pink mohawk who was quite obviously head over heels in love with the young man, who had so many piercings you could barely see his face, whose hand she was holding. I smiled at her as she went by and her eyes light up.
There was a handsome young man on the street corner playing a guitar, harmonica, and hula hooping simultaneously. He saw me take out my camera and started to play behind his head. My heart went out to him and his nearly empty guitar case. He was way to thin. Why was he there? For what purpose did our paths cross? All I could give him was a smile.
There are so many people, so many lives, so many souls. Thousands of untouched hearts and untold stories.
Here I am, for the first time in my life living right smack in the middle of them.
Come to think of it, I could not ask for a bigger library of people to love.

Good post.
It reminds me of the nature of true love which was shown to us by Christ. Love is outward working, seeking the interests of others apart from our immediate gain. In full, love is seeking to cause others to be satisfied in the glories of God.
The danger with love regarding relationships (specifically by & girl relationships) is that love morphs into selfish gain. for instance, I would get to know someone so that they will give me the joys of being in a relationship with them.
That is why, as you demonstrate, love functions just find outside a boy & girl relationship. Love moves into everyone life and seeks to show them Christ. Even when they may or may not give anything in return.
And it is this love which will ultimately sustain any future marriage. The ability, in the power of the Holy Spirit, to love when it hurt and there is no return, will keep two people together for a life time.
My rambling is done :). hopefully it is helpful to someone in some way.
@ Rachel, I love your comments! They make my day! =)
@ Charlie, that is an excellent definition of love and I thank you for sharing it! I have been on a bit of a quest to find a proper definition of "love" and I think you said it beautifully!
Great perspective, Hillary!
Oh, Hillary, that was such a great post! And it is something I can totally relate to! I, too, need to learn to stop looking for someone to satisfy me, and instead look for others who I can love! Thank you for posting!
Wow.
I loved your post Hillary! So many times I've thought the same thing(s) Keep it up on spreading your sunshine to the world!
*Hugs*
